Fouad Bouddine
Visual artist and painter · Casablanca, Morocco
A self-taught artist, born in 1985 in El Jadida. Trained as an engineer — civil engineering at the École des Mines d’Alès, then the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne. I still use that grammar in the studio: materials science, chemistry, geology. My work questions the continuities between art, culture and science.
An explorer of materials and gestures: acrylic and oil, perlite, natural pigments, spray paint, ink and resin — on canvas, metal, wood, copper and leather.
Collections
- Chromatic Choreography — 12 works. Thousands of copper petals, raised one by one on the stretched canvas. As you move around the pieces, the colours shift, answer one another, eclipse one another. No pigment changes: it is the light that moves.
- The Golden River — 38 works. “The Afternoon Sun” is made of 35 canvases of varying sizes, juxtaposed into a single work 10.1 m wide and 2.3 m high. The river of gold is drawn out of nearly 40,000 universal symphonies in black, each one a unique note.
- Solar Chlorophyll — 22 works. A visual symphony between the vegetal and passion. Red lines — straight, at times cutting — rise like pulses of fire across the solar yellow: a force that is continuous yet untamed.
- Nature & Texture — 2 works. Monochrome work in which the material takes over: perlite, coating, varnish. Pieces that hover between sculpture and painting, made of repeated gestures swept across a surface at once creamy and set.
